Big reputations,
bold beginnings
Every great journey begins with a purpose, and ours was simple: to champion the hardworking people behind small businesses and help them succeed.
The betterbunch story
Before betterbunch came to life, our founder, Ethan Richards — a hands-on tradie at heart — was running a plumbing and electrical business in Melbourne. He built it from the ground up, eventually sold it, and learned a lot along the way.
Ethan experienced first-hand the challenges of being a business owner: the long hours, the stress, and the constant pressure to stay competitive. He saw how tough it was — business owners struggling to stay afloat, barely surviving, or falling into debt just to keep going.
When Ethan returned to New Zealand, he came back with a clear goal: to help small business owners not just get by, but thrive. He knew he couldn’t just sit behind a desk guessing what business owners needed. Instead, he went straight to the source.
For months, Ethan sat down with local business owners — not to sell, but to listen. After countless hours of conversations and cold calling, he started to see a pattern: hardworking business owners delivering great work but struggling to get noticed.
Many shared the same story — people were turning to Google to find local businesses, and reviews were often the deciding factor in who to call. Even businesses with top-tier service couldn’t get customers to leave reviews, and because of that, they were losing potential clients to competitors with better ratings.
That’s when the idea for betterbunch was born: to build big reputations for small businesses.
We started by solving one of the biggest challenges small businesses face: generating positive reviews.
We developed a simple, easy-to-use tool that automates the review generation process, helping hundreds of businesses collect thousands of glowing Google reviews — and thrive because of it.
Since then, we’ve expanded our toolkit to help thousands of small businesses stand out in even bigger ways.
From automated feedback systems that stop bad word of mouth in its tracks to tools that refine and polish their brand image, we’ve built solutions that ensure businesses get the recognition they deserve.
Why we do what we do
At betterbunch, we believe small businesses are the backbone of the economy.
They’re not faceless corporations — they’re run by real people. People who have taken risks, poured their hearts into what they do, and given everything to build better lives for themselves and their communities.
But we also know that running a business is tough.
With over 300,000 businesses across New Zealand and Australia closing their doors last year, it’s clear the odds are stacked against them.
That’s why our mission is to champion local businesses — helping them stand out, build trust, and attract more customers.
